These 23-year-old Texans made $4 million last year mining bitcoin off flare gas from oil drilling
Here's a summary:
1 - Drilling for shale oil in Texas produces an excess natural gas that "flares" into the air uncaptured (not good for the environment, can be seen from outer space).
2 - Companies and entrepreneurs have developed a clean technique to capture the natural gas (byproduct) and immediately harness its energy to power Bitcoin mining rigs.
3 - These on-site Bitcoin mining rigs further secure the Bitcoin network (by running cryptographic proof-of-work algorithms) and, as a reward for providing this service to the network, produce valuable Bitcoin tokens for the owners of the mining rigs.
